Ore Beneficiation

In mining or extractive metallurgy, beneficiation is a critical process that enhances the economic value of ore by effectively removing gangue minerals. This leads to the production of a higher-grade product and generates tailings as a waste byproduct, improving overall efficiency and boosting.

Leaching

Leaching is a widely used process in extractive metallurgy where ore is dissolved, while impurities remain insoluble. This technique converts metals into soluble salts in aqueous solutions. Leaching is simpler, efficient, and less harmful to the environment, as it avoids gaseous pollution and minimizes hazardous byproducts.

Refining

Refining consists of purifying an impure metal to improve its quality and usability. It differs from processes like smelting and calcining, which cause chemical changes in raw materials. In refining, the final product retains the same chemical composition as the original material but achieves a higher level of purity.

Tailings

Tailings are the materials left over after the process of separating the valuable fraction from the uneconomic fraction of an ore. Tailings are distinct from overburden, which is the waste rock or other material that overlies an ore and is displaced during mining without being processed.
